Front of House-Before and After

Hello, Bloggy Friends. I'm joining Susan at BNOP for Met Monday. Please visit her wonderful blog for this fun party.

Here is the front of my house as it was when I moved in about a year ago. Well, I had already replaced the front door. The trim was a yellow that I hated, and those crepe myrtles were always ugly to me. (I love crepe myrtles, but these were never pruned right to be pretty)

Here is what the flower bed looked like when I moved in.........over grown and weedy.

The other side was just as bad.

Yuk!

I planted these bushes, and here you can see I have painted the shutters and garage door.

Redone right side of the house.

House with the yellow trim gone and replaced by "Dove White".

I planted flowers around the one crepe myrtle that I let stay.

(Not very visible here)

My door and flowers as they look right now for 4th of July.

(Hate the lanterns! I will replace them one day)

I found this white metal planter recently and just stuck my geraniums in there, some flags and a red, white and blue bow.

So here's how she looks now. I don't really like the style of my house. I'd rather have a cute, cottagy look with a front porch. But I think it looks ok now for a ranch.

Before!

After!

Thanks for visiting me today. I always appreciate your time!

Your vision is working well with the ranch-style home. By your writing I believe you are wanting some "POP". Until you find what you want to replace the lanterns at the front porch. Spray paint them BLACK. Wa-la! Then add 2 very large pots or urns painted black on each side of the charcol gray door filled with lacey green ferns and seasonal perenials of yellows, reds, purples or white and red begonias or just 4ft tall topiary's. It will give your home that elegant sophisticated touch.

Wait until your plants fill in, I think the front door is so cute!

Good job, and I am glad you were brave enough to get rid of the crepe myrtles- if they are not pruned right there is no saving them.

Great job on your house. I really like the new paint colors and the way you incorporated the sidelights and the front door with the paint. I predict that you will have that cottagey look you want when your plantings grow.

I do like your lanterns. They are a nice size and a timeless style. I think Cyndy's idea of painting them is great. It's worth a try!

Your house looks wonderful! I love those lanterns! Remember me when you get rid of them. I will take them in a minute! lol You been busy! Love all your planting. The door pocket with the red, white and blue looks great! I've been sick in bed for five days after the Luncheon. I over did. lol Then I got hurt, then a few days later had a bad fall. So can't get on computer much. Wanted to tell you I enjoyed our time in Natchez. Wish I had got your telephone number. I have to Email you mine. Love your home!

Your updates have certainly given your home lots of curb appeal. I love the lanters! I suspect replacing them with lights of a comparable size would cost an arm and a leg so I was going to suggest painting the lanterns too. Flat black paint would given them the look of wrought iron.

I live in a ranch style house too but to me it will always be a "cottage." lol.

Wow! I think you've done a great job to the outside of your house. The new door and paint and work in the flower beds really made all the difference. I'm surprised you don't like the lanterns. When I saw the photo, I thought they looked real nice. By the way, I also enjoyed reading the post about your daddy! Oh, and I love the patriotic arrangement on the front door:)
