This is the way my hall bath looked when I moved in my house. (Excuse the grainy MLS pic) The walls were a dark purply color, old linoleum floor, skinny white cabinets and the shower had old, cracked white tile.
While tearing out the old white cabinets, we found mold and mildew and lots of water damage. We stripped the bathroom down to the studs, and basically started from scratch.
Here's the bath today. Quite an improvement. While I was freaked out about the mildew and mold, it was really a blessing in disguise, because now I have a fresh, new bathroom. :)
I added new faucets and a new vanity with granite tops. These came from Lowe's. New light fixtures, too. Mirror is from Wal Mart.
Here's the tile in the shower. Much improved from the cracked, old stuff.
Time to add a few accessories. A corner shelf.............

D, your bathroom makeover is astonishing! What a transformation you've made! I'm sure living through it wasn't fun but was soooo worth it.
Regarding the hanging of your heavy mirror, Susan at BNOTP recommended using OOKS, a different form of wall hanger that comes in different wt. bearing types. It is fan shaped & you use 3 nails to distribute the wt. support. We found them at Home Depot. Hope this helps.
Good luck!
