This is one of my fav movies of all time. I must have gone to see it 10 times at the theatre when it first came out.
I wanted to see the actual bridges so bad after seeing the movie. So, a few months later, we packed up the car and headed for Winterset, Iowa. Yippee!
Much to my surprise, the house used in the film was open for tours. I was so excited.
Here I am standing by the sign to Francesca's House. The house was open for tours until 2003 when it was partially destroyed by an arson fire. :(
That's why I'm so glad I got to go when I did. If you saw the movie, you will recognize the house. See Francesca's swing?
The tour was great, because nothing in the house was roped off, and you could go anywhere and plunder all you wanted. Here I am in Francesca's kitchen. (I was wishing Clint was standing beside me as I washed veggies. hehehehe )
Francesca's phone.
Her kitchen table. (I looked like a drowned rat in these pics, because it had downpoured earlier)

They even let you get in the bathtub!

I am getting blown away by everybody's posts today! This is so wonderful! I LOVED THAT MOVIE! And I loved the book too!
Oh you are so lucky to have made that tour! I wish I had known, I would have traveled all the way from New York!
Maybe I'll go to see the bridge and the cafe anyway.
Thanks so much for sharing this! It made me happy!
All the best,

PS ~ You look so pretty in the pictures!
Oh what fun! I'm so glad you got to go on the tour while they still had them. I loved that movie too, but I haven't seen it as often as you have:) I think I may need to get it out and watch again! Twyla
One of my favorite movies.. I can't believe you could just wander around the house... and it looks just as I remember it from the movie. Wonderful photos!
Thanks for visiting. I have NEVER seen the movie...but maybe I should. How wonderful to see the house and the bridges....I love to do things like that! Have a great weekend.
That was a favorite movie of mine as well! How wonderful that you were able to tour the house! We have a covered bridge in my town but it's not near as cute as that one! Maybe if they painted it red!

Hi D :)
What a great trip! I've only seen parts of the movie, but I remember that house. I can't believe you can tour it like that.
